We are slowly but surely starting to move towards brighter and warmer times. The days are getting longer. Cross-country and downhill tracks are groomed, and it's also a popular time to go dog sledding if you want to discover the forest landscape. At the end of the month, the mountain area bus starts operating to the world heritage site Laponia, and the mountain station STF Saltoluokta opens for the season.

On February 6, we celebrate Sami National Day within Sápmi. In Gällivare, this is usually noticed through events at the Gällivare Cultural Museum and the homestead areas around the municipality.

During the first week of the month, Jokkmokk's market is arranged, only one hour from Gällivare. A Sámi-inspired winter market that people worldwide have been making pilgrimages to for more than 400 years. The number of visitors during the weekend is usually between 40–50,000 people.
