Experience autumn in Gällivare
Autumn is perhaps the most magical time of year in Gällivare. When the mountains and forests transform into a colourful painting of red, yellow and orange, a unique atmosphere is created that attracts both nature lovers and adventure seekers.
In September, you can still hike in the World Heritage Site of Laponia, where both mountain huts and Naturum Laponia are open. The evenings often offer spectacular northern lights – a dream for photographers and an unforgettable experience for anyone who wants to see nature’s own play of light.
October brings the first snowflakes, but also a chance to enjoy nature’s pantry and participate in Gällivare’s cultural festival - Kulturfesten. Take a trip up Dundret up the scenic 5:an-vägen, a popular excursion destination to see the northern lights dancing over the mountain peaks, or if you’re lucky, the first ice has set for a long-distance ice skating trip.
When the autumn holidays (week 44) arrive, a packed programme awaits children and young people – with sports, culture, creative activities and lots of fun for the whole family.
Autumn in Gällivare is a time of strong contrasts: colourful nature, Arctic light phenomena, flavorful experiences and culture right in the heart of Swedish Lapland.
