The Green Transition Brings Great Opportunities for Gällivare Municipality to Expand and Grow. Gällivare is in an expansive phase, with a growing and robust job market. Many are finding their way to Gällivare, including both new residents and those returning to their hometown. Daniel Jansson from Strömsund shares his experience of settling in the area.

After visiting Gällivare a few times and feeling a desire to try something new, Daniel decided to move here. He now works as a business advisor at Sparbanken Nord and is enjoying his new life.

Personally, I’m really enjoying it, extremely so – I’ve been positively surprised. It was my interest in nature and training that drew me to the place. Gällivare has many similarities with Östersund, where I previously lived, both in terms of community and people, says Daniel.

Housing is a current topic in Gällivare, as it is in many expanding communities. Calculations show that 1,200 new homes will be needed in the coming years. The municipality is actively working to attract more investors and developers to contribute to building the city.

I made a post on Facebook that was shared through my personal network. Through that, I found an option to live as a lodger while I wait for my own apartment through Top Bostäder. I will have access to it starting March 1. My tip to others is to stay updated through social media, Daniel shares.

Finding Your Place in a New Community

To help new residents quickly integrate and feel welcome, the municipality offers a relocation service that provides information and activities.

Making people feel at home is largely about personal interest – being curious and open. It’s about your mindset. Having the right attitude is important! A good workplace and meaningful free time are key factors for feeling comfortable. So, I want to give an extra thank you to my incredible colleagues here," says Daniel.

Balancing Work and Leisure

One thing Daniel highlights is Gällivare’s wide range of activities and community life. A great example is Gälkarun – a private initiative that aims to motivate people towards better health through various running events around Gällivare municipality.

What’s the Best Thing About Gällivare?

The people. The further north you go in Sweden, the friendlier the people are. It’s fantastic to meet the individuals behind the businesses in Gällivare – there’s so much drive and engagement. I’m fortunate to be part of their journey and contribute to a thriving business community here.

What makes Gällivare unique is the range of possibilities, the proximity to Dundret, and how simple and easy life is here. I also appreciate the ongoing changes – things are happening, and it never feels stagnant, which is exciting. For example, the urban transformation shows that this is a vibrant, evolving community. And finally, the proximity – the ‘five-minute community’ and the simplicity of life here, Daniel concludes.
